The new Amplatz Children’s Hospital creates an innovative environment for children’s healthcare and supports the hospital’s patient- and family-centered care mission. An interactive, all-ages interior design theme, “Passport to Discovery,” distinguishes the facility, aids in wayfinding, and recalls the hospital’s reputation as a leader in research.
- Layout maximizes daylighting and exterior views, creating respite areas for families and staff.
- Patient rooms are designed to empower patients by providing user-controlled, color-LED ceiling lights and writable surfaces for communication and self-expression.
- Family zone in the patient room includes sleeping accommodations for two adults, a computer with Internet access, and an activity table.
- Multilayered, information-rich theme is designed to engage patients throughout their hospital stay and is expressed through ceiling and floor patterns, decorative lighting fixtures, finish materials, and integrated graphic and art elements.
- Each floor features a unique habitat announced in a wall graphic at each elevator lobby.
- Animals act as “storytellers,” sharing information about habitat, culture, and research milestones.
- Vibrant, age-inclusive color palette was determined with input from patients and families.
- Interior materials include PVC-free, low-VOC, and rapidly renewable selections.
